UWMRF

Jessica Silvaggi

Project Lead

Project Description

The UWMRF was formed to strengthen the campus mission at UW Milwaukee and to improve the lives of our citizens and our economy through the support of innovation. In addition to our technology transfer role, we provide and manage seed grants for innovators, support I-Corps programming through our Milwaukee I-Corps site, and educate students and faculty in entrepreneurial programming and mentorship through our work with the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center (LEC). Additionally, we are instrumental in managing the intellectual property of our many university/industry research centers which includes the Water Equipment and Policy NSF I/UCRC.

Dr. Jessica Silvaggi has been an executive team member over the last three years helping WiSys and WARF colleagues determine the key challenges that Wisconsin faces and how we can help to coordinate the creation of technology to solve those problems. Dr. Silvaggi will contribute her time to continue in the collaboration, outreach, networking, and research needed to build the proposed engine.

The UWMRF will support engine startups and innovators through the Milwaukee I-Corps program and has the capabilities to help in forming and running new additional lean launch programs, specifically for the engine, that will aid in strengthening our teams. In addition, our team member, Brian Walsh, has the expertise to provide education and training for SBIR/STTR grant writing for our engine entrepreneurs. We will provide webinars or classes in this space to help our startups and small companies learn to write and compete for this important government funding. Our office will support 10% of the time spent on the engine activities as a match for that provided by the engine subaward for our senior personnel.
